Sun is Leo, 29° 37'
Moon is Aquarius, 29° 37'
This second full moon in Aquarius is in the Anaretic degree, which tends to throw in an added smidge of "edginess" to the day. On the positive side, the day should not be much more challenging than a typical full moon day. The facet of the anaretic degree is that we become a bit compulsive, or obsessed, or feel compelled to start, or finish, or push through a project. The Sun in Leo can highlight affection, be it for a friend, a lover, or a child. We feel there's a significance to the relationship that we strive to make the bond tighter. The Leo influence can also add to some risk taking behavior. Basically, we just feel more lucky when the Sun transits Leo. The Sun is opposing the Moon and Jupiter retrograde in Aquarius. The Jupiter impact can play tricks on us, as we tend to think of Jupiter as expansive, but when it is retrograde, Jupiter acts more like Saturn in a repressive way. Keep plans smaller and more intimate rather than an overblown presentation. In other words, keep potential flops and fiascos to a minimum.
There is LOTS to talk about leading into the full moon. One topic is, this full moon, in North America, is known as the Sturgeon Moon. It represents a time that autumn is approaching, heading into the harvest season in preparation for winter. The sturgeon were/are, seemingly, much easier to catch during this time of the year.
A seasonal blue moon according to NASA? Well, that depends. For some timezones, the seasonal blue moon is occurring with this August full moon (the third of four full moons in the season) because of the "timing" of the event, while the rest of the world will have a seasonal blue moon in November (again, because of timing). While it is difficult to explain, you can read more about the seasonal blue moon in Lunar Living's Moon Articles.
The Moon is just returning from an Out of Bounds (OOB) transit from the 17th to the 20th of August. Looking back at the events of those days, there definitely have been some hair-raising events and tragedies that have lead to traumatizing visions that we have been sorting through while the moon was OOB. The WinCalendar.com site usually gives a quick news perspective that can be useful for a fast overview of recent events (although sometimes it may take a few days to catch back up with recent news) But, generally, when referencing OOB transits, even though some of the events, like the earthquake in Haiti and the quick takeover of Afghanistan by the Taliban happened before the Moon's OOB transit, we were inundated by the news during the OOB transit in a way that likely felt traumatic to those helpless to help.
Now, back to the present, Mercury, in Virgo, is right at home, with a penchant for organizing to make life easier on the brain. We tend to remember and learn easier when Mercury transits through Virgo. Mercury is conjunct to Mars in Virgo, giving us an added edge in our decision making process. Mercury is trine to Uranus retrograde in Taurus. Trust is an important issue today. Neptune retrograde in Pisces opposes Mercury, adding a level of mystery to our day. We may have doubts about our abilities, thanks to Neptune.
Venus in Libra is also right at home. Relationships tend to feel more harmonious when Venus transits through Libra. Venus is trine to Saturn retrograde in Aquarius. This helps us to find a sense of stability, even if there's been a recent challenge. We find some bonding time helps to work through some of our difficulties.
The sextile from Neptune retrograde in Pisces to Pluto retrograde in Capricorn, can be the "monkey wrench" for this full moon chart in that best laid plans seem to need extra effort. Just look around for a minute to get some "orientation" for the day. We think we have everything in place that we need to get through this transit smoothly, yet, what appears easy will be challenged by Some-Thing. Pluto and Neptune rarely make anything easy in our lives. The fact that Neptune ties back into Mercury (along with Mars) but does not "Wedge" up with Pluto, but instead goes the opposite direction to trine with Uranus retrograde, really muddies up the "aspect" waters. What's that adage? Expect the Unexpected? It's difficult to be prepared for what we can't expect, but we are going to fare better if we allow ourselves to pivot when necessary.
Uranus just stationed for its retrograde motion on August 20. That makes five retrograde transits happening now. Six if we count Chiron.
Overall, this chart comes across as being balanced with an equal number of feminine and masculine receptives. So there is a positive feature right there. On the other hand, there may be a power struggle between Air Elements and Earth Elements. The Fire and Water Elements really don't do much to help in making a choice between which will be better; Intellectual or Physical. Most likely, moving forward with our strengths is going to be the better option. What is most likely to trip us up is that there are five planets in Fixed Quality signs. We may be resistant, hesitant, or simply, flat out opposed to necessary changes that Pluto and Neptune are likely to force upon us. Just a typical Full Moon day, right?
Meditation for the August 22nd Full Moon
We assume causality. But most often, all we can really say about two events is that one follows the other.
