Sun is Capricorn, 0° 49'
Moon is Cancer, 0° 49'
This full moon is known as the Cold Moon since it occurs nearest to the longest night of the year, Winter Solstice. The Sun has just ingressed into Capricorn, as the Solstice is the start of the new season (Winter for northern and Summer for southern hemispheres). The Moon, now in Cancer, has moved in the opposition of the Sun. The moon will still feel fairly full by the time Christmas is here, so Santa should have plenty of evening light to get to all the destinations.
With the Sun in Capricorn, we tend to become more ambitious with plans and goals to meet. We tend to become more cautious in our objectives. The moon, at home in Cancer tends to tap into our deepest emotional well, especially when matters involve family and home. Emotions may be at odds with the Capricorn influences that want us to be more practical and realistic. The full moon is forming an out of sign Wedge aspect to Uranus. The Sun is trine Uranus retrograde in Aries while the Moon is sextile. The blending of traits is not so strong, since Uranus needs to still be in Taurus to get the maximum influence. While it could still spark our imagination and open opportunities, it may not appear in the normal manner that we are accustomed.
Mercury in Sagittarius is plugging along direct motion, although it has not yet moved out of the shadows of the retrograde. Mercury will pop out of the shadows on December 24. Until then, there is a little bit more work we need to do to clean up after the previous retrograde transit. Mercury has just moved past a conjunction with Jupiter in Sagittarius, which expands on the Mercury in Sagittarius traits, of wanting to find all the hidden clues or piecing together the puzzles of life. Mercury and Jupiter are square to Neptune in Pisces. There is a layer of mystery added to the conjunction as we may spin ourselves into a fantasy so big, that it consumes us.
Venus in Scorpio is at the midway point of the sign, and the influences tend to be a bit harsher on us now. We want to explore the taboos that surface while Venus transits Scorpio, but at what cost. Venus sextile to Saturn in Capricorn tries to pull us out of the morass that we may create for ourselves as we want to please others, while maintaining our dignity. It's a bit of a delicate situation that we could create for ourselves. There may be a tendency to want to blame others for our uneasy predicament, while Venus is trine to Neptune in Pisces. There is so much curiosity in this one, we may end up killing the cat, so to speak.
Mars in Pisces is in the last decan of the sign. This is the strongest sector of Pisces as Mars begins to build momentum, while it heads towards home territory of Aries. This third decan could be a moment of re-birth, or a moment of self-destruction. It can be traumatizing for those individuals with heavy Martian influences, as all the watery energies of Pisces are difficult to traverse. It some ways, it could feel as though we are drowning. Mars is sextile to Pluto in Capricorn. This is a perfect aspect to be occurring right now, as we attempt to discern deception and truth.
Mars is conjunct with Chiron in Pisces. This is the last of the Chiron in Pisces journey for many years to come, as Chiron prepares to move back into Aries in February. For those who have found some sense of healing with Chiron's transit in Pisces, we will get this small window of opportunity to make it right, so that we can start moving to a healthier life, ultimately.
Saturn in Capricorn is sextile to Neptune in Pisces. We continue on our journey of noble ambitions. We need to be cautious not to stoop to amoral activities in an attempt to meet our legitimate activities. When others discover our use of illegal or unethical activities, they will judge us much more harshly, and our cause is likely to become a wasted effort. As Saturn moves into the second decan of Capricorn, our tendencies may become more selfish and materialistic. As such, we need to make our choices wisely, and not grab the "low hanging fruit" which can denigrate our true worth. For Saturn, this is the Garden of Eden zone of Capricorn. Saturn is also tapping into Neptune in Pisces with a sextile. To get the best value for our efforts, stay behind the scenes. This allows us to see the best values and we can tap into all the details that help us to perform better.
Well, Uranus, the only planet in retrograde motion at the moment, has moved back over the 29th degree (anaretic) of Aries and is moving backwards in the third decan. The planet is backing up into the trailblazer sign. We will be less progressive than before, when Uranus was moving direct through this area. But, nonetheless, there is an impulsiveness that takes us on an unconventional journey, once again. There will be a bit of Déjà vu in this one until the sixth of March. Then Uranus will be done with Aries for a very long time.
Overall, there is an asymmetry in this chart that we need to navigate. The heaviest portions of the chart are the feminine respectives, which encourage us to think more in terms of family and security, and less about the luxury items in life. There are no placements in the Air elements, so our thinking patterns may be different, than usual. There are five placements in Cardinal qualities and only one in Fixed, which pushes our drive into high gear without the benefit of quality brakes. Unless we are very comfortable moving through dangerous territory with faulty security, this full moon is likely to feel extremely unstable. Slow down and don't be in such a hurry as to put our lives at risk, no matter how long it takes to get there.
Merry Christmas to those who celebrate and Happy New Year to All.
Meditation for the December 22nd Full Moon
