Lunar Eclipse
in: Cancer 20°
January 10, 2020 @ 7:22 p.m. GMT
January 10, 2020 @ 11:22 a.m. PST -8
Sun is Capricorn, 20° 00'
Moon is Cancer, 20° 00'

This Lunar Eclipse will occur with the Sun in Capricorn and the Moon in Cancer. It will be a Penumbral eclipse in that it will be only somewhat observable as a lunar eclipse. It will be barely obscured of some of the moonlight (Sun's reflection). Due to the time of the eclipse, it will not be observable from the western hemisphere (American continent). It will be somewhat visible over most of the Eastern Hemisphere in the evening of January 10 or morning of January 11, depending on our timezones - Check out the time on Moon Tracks - The Western hemisphere uses the minus (-) while the Eastern uses the plus (+) to calculate time based on timezones away from GMT. There is a world map at the bottom of this page.

This eclipse belongs to the Lunar Saros Series of 144, associated with the third nodal family that originated in the north. Eclipse series always originate from either the north or south node points. The first total eclipse of this 144 series will occur during the year 2308.

The original date of the 144 saros series of the lunar eclipse was July 18, 1749, which corrects to July 29, 1749 in the current calendar system. The Moon was at 6 degrees Aquarius opposing the Sun in Leo. For the Moon in Aquarius, it occurred in the first decan ruled by Uranus and the third duad, ruled by Mars. There is likely to be a detached state of emotion associated with this saros series of eclipses. There is likely to be some unpredictability motivated with force and determination to accomplish goals that may not always be clearly expressed. This original nature, similar to a natal chart, will always carry over to the subsequent lunar eclipses of this series.

For today's eclipse, the Sun in Capricorn is forming a conjunction to Mercury, Saturn and Pluto, while opposing the Moon in Cancer. This could pressure us to think in more realistic terms, while emotionally, we feel attached to memories that may not be so real. This may bring up some emotional turmoil between ourselves and others. There is likely to be skepticism directed at others, or from others directed at us. Either way, it is not likely to feel positive nor productive. Pluto's influence in all this tends to be transformative, and can involve the loss of something(s) that we value. For some of us, it may be something about our behaviors or habits that we need to let go of. For others, it may involve the death of a loved one that forces us to transition into a new way of surviving while releasing the life that we had been living. While it is not always this extreme, the possibility is always there when Pluto's influence is accentuated during an eclipse event.

The eclipse along with Mercury is forming a wedge pattern (sextile and trine) to Neptune in Pisces. This combination tends to accentuate our talents and abilities by either building on them, or highlighting them in a way that allows us to navigate a difficult situation with problem-solving that we have not needed to rely on for a long time. There is also the potential for some very vivid dreams that can change our perspective on situations.

Looking at the declination placements of the planet - the moon is pushing into the extreme northern declinations, although it will not yet transit out of bounds. However, even these extreme declinations can add stress to our lives for a few days between January 9 through January 11. Mercury is transiting out of bounds until January 13, then in the extreme declinations until January 17. This also accentuates the feelings of stress and turmoil. As for Jupiter, it has been transiting in the extreme declination zone for months. Jupiter has a way of expanding on the chaos that causes us to feel unsettled. There's little to feel calm about at this time. For those of you who track the Moon's declination, the Moon will begin the OOB transits twice per month again in March this year

Mars, in Sagittarius, is transiting over a critical degree of the sign, adding restless energy to the day. However, there are moments of opportunity that have potential if we know which opportunities to grab.

Overall, this chart is focused on change to us, and not on us changing others. We may need to be more self-reliant and not hold out hope that others will swoop in to help us solve our problems, at least not immediately. The eclipse influences tend to last a bit longer than a full moon, but we should feel more relief within the next few weeks. This is a great time to keep a journal for introspective purposes. We can begin to see patterns through our records. This chart is heavy with Cardinal qualities and Earth elements which also indicate our need for leading ourselves out of a difficult situation and utilizing our own knowledge that we have gained over the years. However, this does not mean we cannot learn from others. If the need is there to search for new knowledge, we need to be ready to seek it out. This is not a time to wallow in despair.
