Sun is Aquarius, 22° 28'
Moon is Leo, 22° 28'
The lunar eclipse tonight is the Snow Moon/Full Moon that will not be quite as noticeable because it is a penumbral eclipse and the shadow from the earth is less prominent. Nonetheless, this is still an eclipse and it still holds some potency from the alignment. The Sun in Aquarius while the Moon opposes in Leo places focus on our relationships with loved ones as well as our network of friends and associates. The Sun and Moon tie into a star pattern with three planets. We are one planet shy of having a Grand Sextile in this chart. The Sun, Moon, Jupiter, Saturn and Uranus are situated in a series of sextiles, all in Masculine signs, that can give us courage and strength to either initiate change, or to finalize it, depending on our needs of the moment. The Sun's placement in Aquarius urges us to think with unconventional ideas or tap into our memories for unique wisdom to solve difficult issues.
To add to this interesting planetary star line-up, there is also a Cardinal T-square from Jupiter, Uranus and Pluto, that can challenge us to regroup and rethink our previous strategies. Drawing strength from Uranus and Jupiter, we will be able to blend together the positive influences from the associated sextiles. Don't be too quick to shut down ideas from others that seem quirky. Finding ways to incorporate unusual solutions can add lasting strength to a compromised approach.
Mercury in Aquarius is sextile to Venus and Mars in Aries. This alignment can help us to develop trust and loyalty, if used correctly. Just be careful of what is being promised, as we will need to be realistic and genuine in our approach.
Saturn in Sagittarius is square to Chiron in Pisces while Pluto in Capricorn is sextile to Chiron. This can bring past memories that were not healthy for us, to the forefront. We may worry more than is necessary and it can undermine our abilities to move forward if we don't find a healthy way to release those worries.
This lunar eclipse is the latter stages of the Lunar Saros Series 114 and tied into the 19th Nodal family of eclipses connected back to the eclipses of September, 2016. The Saros 114 series originated on May 13, 971 (which translates to May 18, 971) at 3:53 a.m. with the moon located at 26 degrees Scorpio. Similar to a natal chart, the originating planetary placements help define the series as the lunar eclipse of Saros 114 returns once every eighteen years over a span of 1262 years. Lunar eclipses that originate in Scorpio tend to add to our heightened state of emotions, but at the same time can strengthen our inner resolve to control our emotions. For the eagle-eyed lunar eclipse observer, the eclipse will be easiest to observe from Europe, Africa, and western Asia in the early morning hours. The map below will help give you a good idea of where the eclipse will be easiest to observe.
Overall, this lunar eclipse brings us to a point of feeling out of whack with all that is going on around us. There are eight placements in masculine receptives while only three are in feminine receptives. Our approach may be more like a bull in a china shop. For some of us, this may be beneficial, if we tend to allow others to march all over our rights, but for the majority of us, we may need to return to the scene of our explosion to clean up after ourselves.
There are five placements in the Fire element signs of Aries, Leo and Sagittarius that can cause us to be very excited about change. Again, proceed with caution, as we may end up getting more than we anticipated. Impulsive decisions can undermine our well-being. To get a better understanding of how this lunar eclipse might impact you, check on your natal chart to discover which house the eclipse will be transit.
Happy Valentine's Day (February 14).
