The new moon at the end of the year is less familiar to us than the new moon just after the new year. This new moon is a bit like a full moon in that it sets us on the path to finishing up projects, but not in an effort to be done with them, but in order to open up new options for the new moon in January. Of course, that new moon is arriving at the end of January, so need to be thinking that far ahead as we proceed on the projects that we have in front of us today. During that new moon, we will experience seven planets in the signs of Aquarius and Pisces, which is quite unusual. Let's look at the potential opportunities that we can look forward to while finishing out 2024.

One thing to be thinking about during this new moon is that the next new moon in January, 2025, will be the Chinese Lunar New Year, Year of the Snake, and for the western astrology factor, Aquarius new moons tend to spark our ingenuity. We like to hang out with like-minded people, and enjoy brisk discussions about our ideas in the effort to spark new ideas. So clearing out the projects that could prevent us from entertaining in the new year is a good start. The year of the snake is known for bringing wisdom, intuition, personal introspection, and transition or transformation until the next Lunar New Year, 2026.

Mercury moving direct in Sagittarius is transiting out of a square to Saturn in Pisces. We may perseverate on ideas that are too obscure to comprehend, or we let our minds spin on the most basic of functions that seemingly hold us back. Our best bet is to redirect our thinking onto learning new skills or talents to push the useless thoughts out of the way, especially for the day.

Venus is finishing up in Aquarius, moving into Pisces on January 3. For the moment, we are enjoying Venus fueled interactions that might help us to see new possibilities. Venus is square to Uranus retrograde in Taurus. We may get bogged down in theories that are useless in the long run, yet feel important nonetheless. Taking a step away from them will help us to feel less distracted.

Mars in Leo is retrograde. The Mars retrograde happens about once every two years, lasting only a few months. Mars will move back into Cancer in January. Mars will station direct on February 24. The fact that Mars will be also transiting Out of Bounds from the beginning of January all the way through, into April, will make our decisions that much more consequential. Start acting and thinking with the belief that our decisions matter while Mars is in the motion of retrograde, especially while transiting Out of Bounds, because those decisions will have a long-term impact on our lives.

Mars is trine to Neptune in Pisces, and opposing Pluto in Aquarius, creating an out of sign wedge pattern that we will also need to figure out how to work around, for the moment. Making good choices about our health is the best place to start.

Jupiter in Gemini is retrograde and square to Saturn in Pisces, which also impacts the choices we make. We may attempt to approach life with a cavalier attitude, only to discover that our options are truly limited by those choices. Taking proactive action to open new doors may be the only way to find the rewards that we were intended to find. Don't stay stuck. Step back, then to the side, then find new opportunities that we were missing by being complacent or dismissive.

The most positive feature of this final 2024 new moon is that the planet placements are quite balanced. Balanced in regards to Receptive, Element and Quality placements. Despite all the challenging facets of today's new moon, we will still be given opportunities, if we choose to take advantage of them.
