Solar Eclipse
in: Sagittarius 12°
December 4, 2021 @ 7:44 a.m. GMT
December 3, 2021 @ 11:44 p.m. PST -8
Sun is Sagittarius, 12° 22'
Moon is Sagittarius, 12° 22'

This total eclipse will be unique in that it will move from east to west, while most solar eclipses move west to east. It will move over West Antarctica near the South Pole. This will not be an eclipse that the average person will get to experience from their backyard, not even in partial. The eclipse is of the saros series 152, which originated on July 26, 1805 in the sign of Leo. The last time saros 152 eclipse occurred was November 23, 2003 and the next one will be December 15, 2039. The eclipse originated in the 5th Nodal family of eclipses from the south, and the placement was Leo Sun, Leo Decan, and Virgo Duad, respectively. The energy presents as creative or flashy (even glittery in an effort to draw attention to the self) with a sense of purpose in the details and precision of efficiency. This energy will carry over to each subsequent Solar Eclipse of this series. Please note that some eclipse books have the wrong eclipse associated with Saros 152. This was discussed in our Lunar Living Solar Eclipse Article of November 23, 2003. This will be the last eclipse of 2021.

When eclipses are total, there is more power or weight carried in its influence. This solar eclipse in Sagittarius will likely feel as though we are dealing with many unfinished situations. We may feel adventurous or generally excited about learning new information. However, be careful not to ignore the day to day matters. There is a need to explore but with a strong hold to the reality of every day, or we may lose touch with important matters or even important people in our lives.

The eclipse is conjunct with Mercury in Sagittarius. sextile to Saturn in Aquarius, and inconjunct (quincunx) to Uranus retrograde in Taurus. Collectively, we may struggle with self-discipline and focus. Saturn is encouraging us to be grounded in our ideas, Mercury is pushing us to learn, and Uranus is, well, just messing with us. Concepts that we thought we knew, inside and out, are trickier than we realized.

The Out of Bounds (OOB) transits are likely to cause us to feel more vulnerable during this solar eclipse. The Moon will be OOB December 4 through 7. Mercury began an OOB transit on December 2, and will last until December 28. Venus will end its extended OOB transit on December 7.

Venus in Capricorn is conjunct with Pluto as it prepares to station for retrograde motion on December 19. Venus is sextile to Mars in Scorpio and sextile to Neptune in Pisces. This stokes our creative side, which might be very beneficial for saving money during this holiday season. At least until Venus stations and begins to move retrograde. The only planet holding Venus back, at the moment is Pluto, which tends to swirl us around like rag dolls in the washing machine. Making the best decisions may not be viable at the moment. Pluto wants us to stop with the outdated ideas. While that may seem easy to do, the problem comes from others who are stuck in their own outdated perspectives who keep pulling us back, trying to get us to be what we used to be, not what we should be. Don't be surprised if we need to sever ties with a few people, in order to grow into our next level of potential.

Mars in Scorpio is at home in this sign, and, can come across as indifferent towards the feelings of others. On the other hand, Mars hones in on our personal feelings, wondering about all types of emotions, from jealousy to greed, and passion to hatred. Scorpio can bring out secrets and taboos. While Mars is square to Jupiter in Aquarius, we may get some satisfaction of stepping over those who no longer bring us friendship or purpose. Our choices are based on ulterior motives. Mars trine to Neptune in Pisces could tie us to some behind the scenes activities in organizations that we feel would bring us benefits or advance our social status. Mars' sextile to Pluto in Capricorn could help us discern the motives of others. On the other hand, we may need to change our own behaviors in order to get out of relationships that are no longer worthy of focus.

Jupiter will be moving into Pisces the end of December. The Jupiter in Pisces report for 2022 is available in our online store.

Overall, this chart is fairly well balanced with an equal number of Masculine and Feminine Receptive placements. There is a balance of Element placements, along with a good balance of Quality placements. This helps us to take advantage of our opportunities without feeling like we are being blocked from the positives of this Solar Eclipse. We are more focused on personal gains during a new moon (solar eclipse) so there may be some confusion from others about our decisions and choices. We can circle back to the relationship side of the changes in a couple weeks, during the full moon.
