Moon is Aquarius, 28° 49'

This saros series 121 solar eclipse originated on April 25, 944. Yes, this is one of the oldest saros eclipse series currently moving through the long line of solar and lunar eclipses. There are three other really old saros series that are still active and older than saros 121. So, yes, each eclipse series can run for a really long time. The science behind these events is amazing. From an astrological perspective, this particular series is tied to the 10th nodal family that originated from the northern hemisphere. This year, 2026 will present the lunar and solar eclipses of the 10th nodal family. The corresponding lunar eclipse in two weeks will have originated from the southern hemisphere. The next solar eclipse in August will have also originated from the southern hemisphere, while the corresponding lunar eclipse in August will have originated from the northern hemisphere, all from the 10th family.

Focusing back onto this particular solar eclipse series that started in the year 944, it was originally a Taurus eclipse at 10 degrees, indicating that it was subruled twice over by Mercury (second decan and fifth duad). Taurus ruled by Venus, in conjunction with Mercury's expression of Virgo, brings in a practicality and discerning characteristic from the original solar eclipse chart. So we want to carry that thread through today's solar eclipse chart to better understand how it will influence us.

Not only is today the solar eclipse, but also the Asian New Year of the Horse. That has its own particular astrological significance. The year of the horse symbolizes dynamic interactions, fast-paced events, while we are attuned to quick actions, changeable transactions, independence, and transformation. Some say that it is a time for acknowledging and accepting the changes as they come, the pursuit of bold goals, and reacting with courage.

One more event to factor in for today is Mardi Gras, or Fat Tuesday. For the Christian religions, today is the Last and Final hour of indulgence before the season of Lent begins. Lent is the 40 days of fasting and reflection leading into Easter.

The Sun and Moon's new moon conjunction in Aquarius, ruled by Uranus, or Saturn in the classical sense, tends to lean in on the unconventional. Change is a matter of fact when Aquarius is involved. The Sun and Moon are in the third decan, lending some Venus influence of compassion and acceptance to the blend. The new moon is square to Uranus in Taurus. Trying to make some extra money off this interaction might feel like a good idea, but let's not count on it happening. There is a materialistic component built in to this and, while there is a chance it works in our favor, there is no guarantee.

Mercury in Pisces is trine to Jupiter retrograde in Cancer. Travel or communication, involving family matters, is likely to pop up. How this happens, with Jupiter's retrograde makes it a bit of a wild card. The whys and how could be great, or not so great, but, the ultimate outcome is likely to be productive.

Saturn and Neptune, in the critical degrees of Aries, are sextile to Pluto in Aquarius. Collectively, the planets here are encouraging us to react with strength and with dignity. Neptune's influence can feel confusing, as we explore spiritual realms that feel new, exciting, and foreign to us. Saturn wants us to tap into the past experiences that we know and feel comfortably true, while Neptune wants us to explore without those constraints. It can be confusing. Finding a way to blend the two is our best bet. Hesitancy can be our best friend as we start on this new journey of exploration. Pluto, of course, is always the planet of transformation. Change and letting go. Saturn, however, is not so quick to let go of the known. Neptune, is all about the unknown. This eclipse will force change, but how we change, will determine what we truly gain and lose, equally.

The most positive facet of this chart is the fact that we will be given the option to find a sense of balance that was missing the the past few moon events. There are six planets in the masculine receptive, with four in feminine. This helps us to approach the day (and next few weeks) with patience and courage. We should be able to use our logic to determine when to use a little extra force, and also when to back off. We may need to navigate some feelings of depression. Luckily, these feelings will quickly change as soon as we recognize that we have some control over our environment. How we plan and strategize for the future can be used to our advantage. We may struggle with the low number of Earth element placements. We may feel that we don't have strong grounded connections to others, or ties that connect us to the past. On the other hand, there are five planetary placements in the fixed qualities of the chart, which give us solid stability of endurance, consistency, and patience. That's another way of approaching this eclipse season. Self reliance is likely to be our best approach over the next few weeks.
