Happy New Year!
The first full moon of 2018 and with it being this close to the beginning of the year, that means we will get a second full moon in January. This Cancer Full Moon is known as the Wolf Moon. This is a super full moon so it will look larger in the sky, especially on the horizon. There are multiple interactions from the full moon to Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Neptune, giving us a lot of think about and navigate as our new year begins.
Essentially, the Moon is the tail end of a Kite pattern, which elevates the Moon, in status, through the Grand Trine in Water, by adding in Capricorn's Earth element. All the placements in this Kite are feminine receptives. This puts the Sun and Venus, in Capricorn, in the hot-seats at the top of the Kite.
The Moon in Cancer is the motivating factor for some type of change. Since the Moon is the ruling planet for Cancer, we are likely to see that emotions and family/home matters will need special attention from the Sun and Venus in Capricorn, possibly pertaining to career, authority, autocracy, or even social reputation. The Capricorn forces, along with self (Sun) and finances (Venus) are likely to take the hit, if there's no awareness shown to the significance and power of the Water placements. What makes the Grand Trine more powerful is the fact that the ruling planets are each in their signs; Moon in Cancer, Mars in Scorpio and Neptune in Pisces. Let's factor in that none of these "ruler planets" are transiting in retrograde motion, strengthening their transits through their signs while successful tied together by trines.
This full moon is the lead-in to the next full moon in January, the Leo Lunar Eclipse. Before I get to far into this chart, remember that there is no full moon in the month of February this year. There will be a Blue Moon Lunar Eclipse the end of January, with two full moons in the month of March. These full moons, along with the January New Moon and the March New Moon will surround the Aquarius Solar Eclipse event in February. Yes, remember that this is a time to lean into the changes that are being expected of us in order to successfully navigate the upcoming solar eclipse. Also, one more thing to note; the solar eclipse on February 15 will be the Chinese New Year.
Additionally, last month, for the Winter Solstice, my front page article was mentioned in the United Press International, as well as USAToday, which then went global. I want to thank all of you who noted the pieces and your very kind feedback regarding the quick mention of my piece, in the news. Now, back to the current event.
Mercury is moving direct (forward) again, in Sagittarius and will transit out of the sign on January 10th. Today, Mercury is trine to Uranus retrograde in Aries. This could mess with our logic, or cause our perspectives to be more open than usual, as we attempt to rely on intuition to help us make decisions. One never really knows how to deal with Uranus retrograde when connecting to Mercury.
Mars in Scorpio is tied into the Kite, but is also forming a conjunction to Jupiter helping with confidence and motivation. Together, Mars and Jupiter are sextile to Pluto in Capricorn. No one is going to be able to fool us easily. We may be able to look deeply into the confusion around us and find clarity. However, we do need to be careful not to be overconfident, or we may end up deceiving ourselves.
The Planet of the Hour, Saturn, is finally home in Capricorn, after, almost, 27 years. Saturn's last visit to Capricorn was February 1988 to February 1991, with an approximate three year trek. This time, the transit in Capricorn will be a little more than two years. Since Saturn rules Capricorn, we may feel more ambitious about setting bigger goals for ourselves that require long-term commitments. The key is to establish a plan that has a realistic foundation that we can develop and build on. If we are only seeking notariety, we may discover that Saturn's idea of infamy may be more harsh than we have seen or experienced in the recent past. Plus, our past actions may bubble back to the surface in way that can undermine our dreams. We may need to own, or atone for, our previous choices in a way that shows that we have learned and grown with respect for ourselves and for others.
Uranus in Aries ends the retrograde transit on January 2. Then, Uranus will move into Taurus in May, 2018. There will be some rocky transition by Uranus transiting over the Aries anaretic degree and the cusp of Taurus during the year, before Uranus settles into Taurus for the long-term in 2019.
Looking back at the protracted and multiple square aspects formed between Uranus in Aries and Pluto in Capricorn, we can certainly see a culmination of change brought by the interaction of the two planets. Uranus, the God of Sky, would sometimes utilize a sense of shocking revelations while playing tug-a-war with Pluto, God of the Underworld, using death and destruction for an interpretation of rebirth and renewal. The two transits certainly brought about a change that we could not have anticipated. In some ways, there are observable patterns that the world experienced in 1932 through 1934, while Uranus in Aries was square to Pluto in Cancer. Now we are left with a desire to make sense of it, once again.
To wrap up this first full moon of 2018, we should note that there are only two placements in the masculine receptives (Uranus in Aries and Mercury in Sagittarius). That means that the other nine placements are in the feminine signs, and this could twist us around a bit, as we try to adjust to Saturn's transit in Capricorn. The full moon's chart has a heavy load of Earth and Water placements. It could end up being a muddy mess if we don't find a way to carefully unpack the message from each of the planets that are tied up into the Kite's aspects. If we do it right, we will find a lot of reward, as we head into the Capricorn New Moon. Do it wrong, and we may need to cancel some plans that we have while heading into the New Year.
Meditation for the January 2nd Full Moon
The relative weight of difficulties is largely a function of our own perception.
