Sun is Aquarius, 12° 20'
Moon is Aquarius, 12° 20'
This new moon in Aquarius is also the Lunar New Year for some cultures. For some portions of the Americas, this is a second new moon of the month of January (akin to a blue moon of the full moon variation). The Sun and Moon together in Aquarius tends to accentuate our desire to detach from emotions and explore our more inventive side. On the other hand, this new moon is also conjunct to Saturn, which urges us to follow the rules and create a foundation for our exploration. Then, we throw in the square to Uranus in Taurus, which pushes us to be more spontaneous and less cautious. What do we do with all these conflicting messages? Well, that really depends. Just remember, that others around us are also trying to navigate these confusing messages. Don't want to be forced to conform to others' ideas? Um, don't push our own ideas onto others either, because it is not going to help to build anything productive or positive. It's best to just network and align with others who have similar ideas rather than trying to force our ideas onto others.
Mercury in Capricorn is about to finish up the retrograde motion on February 4. Just a few more days to factor in the confusion that retrograde Mercury tends to create. Mercury retrograde is sextile to Neptune in Pisces. This has the potential for creating inspirational thoughts, especially after Mercury stations direct. It can be quite fun to explore that creative side for a few days. Mercury retrograde is also forming a conjunction to Pluto. This one helps us to see reality from a new perspective. We may not like what we see, but we should start to see situations with more clarity in a few days.
Venus in Capricorn is moving in the direct motion (forward) again. Over the next month, we may feel as though we are "reliving" through events that we thought we had already dealt with. Venus is sextile to Jupiter in Pisces and trine to Uranus in Taurus. This can help with social gatherings and also with working situations where our career needs a boost. Take advantage of this one shortly after the new moon is over, to open up some new opportunities for ourselves.
Mars in Capricorn is also forming a sextile to Jupiter. Although it is not close enough to Venus to draw in that influence, the indirect influence from Jupiter should give us an extra burst of energy to catch up on some projects that we let slide since the full moon. We particularly help ourselves by helping others at this time.
Overall, the planetary placements help us to be more introspective and less confrontational with this new moon. We can see more clearly how to help ourselves, but also how to help others around us. The Earth elements placements that dominate this chart help us to feel more grounded. Don't let that transition into being stuck. We need to keep refocusing our attention on what Needs to be handled, without feeling helpless about it. Step over the feelings of sadness or loneliness that we may have developed while the Sun transited through Capricorn, and begin to reach out to friends and family who support us in the best ways possible. Remember to be that support for others, as well. If the first New Year didn't get us motivated, this second one, should. Consider it s Do Over New Year.
